Love Talk

So, it's been a while since I've written. A long while. Life got in the way...more specifically, teenagers did. But I've got to fire this thing back up as God has sent me to deliver a fresh message with the Failureship book and Spectacular. It's not an easy message to deliver. There's a healthy dose of correction (using God's Word, of course) for the Church and Christians. But there's also a bunch of comfort for the broken-hearted.

As Christians, we are supposed to be known by our love. Love for each other. Love of our neighbors. Love of Christ. All too often we are known for our hate-filled words towards the groups of people we supposedly disdain. In the past we have focused on the good ol' WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) to try to show people the love of Christ. But with the effects of Covid compounding the already rapidly changing state of relationships in our country, our words have become more and more important.

With social media (and media in general) making many of our "conversations" into one-way, one-sided disputations, our talk overshadows our walk. Others rarely get to see our walk these days because we don't have the intimate connections we used to have, and often the loud vitriol spewing out of our mouths overwhelms whatever nice walk we may have. Christians are often thought of as hypocrites because our walk and talk don't match. I propose we change our talk. Our walk will never be perfect and our talk should humbly reflect that.

Aah, yes. Humility. That's where it's at. Humility is the only thing we possess when we come to Christ in the first place: "I'm not good enough. I can't do it. I need a Savior." We can't leave that humility once we become Christians. Our talk needs to continue the same conversation: "I'm still not good enough but thank you, Jesus, for making up the difference; for paying my debt." Humble talk. Humble, thankful, vulnerable talk. That will change the world. It needs to say, "I'm sorry. I may be wrong," and "I love you," rather than "You're dead wrong and I can't stand you."

It's 2024. With the impending election this is our chance to be salt and light. To be savory and bright. How about WWJS? What Would Jesus Say? Are we willing to ask ourselves that question before we open our mouths? Are we willing to examine our hearts to root out the wrong there before we tell others how right we are? Let's go Christians! We are sheep sent among wolves so let's be tasty! WWJS? Maybe what changes the world isn't about who gets elected; maybe it's about what Christians say to the world about a God who is bigger than a president. A God who doesn't need a president to accomplish his will. A God who loves sinners. A God who sacrificed to have an eternal relationship with sinners. A Savior that died for his enemies. A Savior who provides hope in a hopeless world.

Just a thought...

So “awfully” good, John. I’m SOOO enjoying Failureship. Billy B (my son-in-law) gave it to me a few weeks ago.
